James Gunns Guardians of the Galaxy Movies are filled with inspired casting decisions, from the chubby guy Parks and Rec Vin Diesel plays the main role of the hero and says only one sentence as Groot. A fan recently asked Gunn on Twitter, “What decision did you fight for in a movie? How, in retrospect, do you still wonder why the studio fought so hard against it?” To which Gunn responded by the casting name by Dave Bautista as Drax the destroyer.
I would say stop @ DaveBautista on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1. The first thing Kevin Feige told me after the first cut was how right I was with him. https://t.co/Bl487SSekN

“I would say hire @DaveBautista for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1. The first thing Kevin Feige told me after the first cut is how right I was with him.”
In front Guardian came out, Dave Bautista was best known for his years as a wrestler in WWE and occasionally as a villain on smaller projects such as robbery and The Scorpion King 3: Fight for Salvation. It is understandable, therefore, that MCU managers would be skeptical about casting the former wrestler in a prominent supporting role in a big budget movie.
But Gunn’s instincts proved correct. Bautista took on the extremely serious role of Drax and managed to turn it into something truly memorable, showing an unexpectedly finely tuned sense of weird timing that went against his beefy body.
Since playing Drax, Bautista has seen his star rise steadily in Hollywood and take on more interesting and varied roles than the “hired muscle”. In return, he has proven that he has what it takes to be a serious actor. When Chance the Rapper recently posted on Twitter wondering how Bautista can act so well, James Gunn was happy to jump in and explain the actor’s process.
“Bc @DaveBautista takes the craft seriously. It’s emotionally based and non-flashy. The difference between Dave and a lot of wrestling actors is that on set you look in the eyes that he is where he is supposed to be, and not thinking about what it is, the next thing I do a lot of with actors who have been part of other performing arts (e.g. wrestling or comedy) is to get them to stop juggling and just It’s not your job to entertain us – it’s just your job to be present in front of you and treat it honestly. I never really had to teach @DaveBautista that. Its rawness set it apart from the first moment when I met him. It was just a matter of creating a space for him to come and share with all of us. “
It is clear that there is a great deal of respect between Gunn and Bautista, which is certain that their upcoming collaboration will take place at the next and possibly final meeting Guardian Film a memorable affair for fans. Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Filming is scheduled to begin in 2021. The current release date is planned for 2023.
