Google I / O 2021 is scheduled to take place tonight. The software giant will host its annual developer conference virtually, which it didn’t do last year due to the coronavirus outbreak. The event starts at 10 a.m., i.e. 10:30 p.m. in India.
The three-day event will be broadcast live on Google’s social media channels. The star of the show is likely to be the new version of Android, and Google is also expected to announce some of the new updates to Wear OS and Google Assistant. Read on to find out more about it.
Android 12 OS will be the main announcement in today’s keynote. Google has released three developer previews of the operating system. The first public beta of the software is now expected to begin. Front page Tech posted a video on YouTube showing that Android 12 will also receive a major user interface (UI) overhaul.
Android 12 may have redesigned buttons, buttons, widgets, and new animations. A redesigned media player widget, new brightness control, new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth switches, new analog clock widget, and a few other items may be added. The video also mentions that Android 12 will bring “brand new stacked notifications”. This suggests that users may be able to group app notifications according to their preference.
Google should also offer stronger data protection and security functions. It is also rumored that a new conversation widget will be added that will help keep users informed of messages and calls from friends or family. Android 12 is also expected to have support for the AVIF image format and an app hibernation feature for better storage optimization.
We could also see an improved version of the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for video. Users may also be able to access Google Assistant from the power button on Android phones.
New smart home products, WearOS updates
Google is likely to announce new smart home products. While details are not yet known, at least one smart home hardware product is expected. There might also be an announcement about new features in the Google Assistant.
“To celebrate the 5th birthday of the Google Assistant, we’re going to share our smart home journey and the things we learned along the way. We’ll also look at product vision and new product announcements, and showcase great assistant experiences created by our developer community. “ Google said in a blog post.
Google’s WearOS will also receive new updates, the details of which will be announced during the keynote. It is widely rumored that Samsung is giving up its Tizen operating system and launching a Wear OS-based smartwatch. It remains to be seen whether this will show up at the developer conference.
While Google typically doesn’t make hardware announcements at its annual developer event, the Pixel Buds A-Series (TWS) wireless stereo earbuds may be launched. The company is also expected to showcase the Pixel 5A smartphone at this year’s Google I / O event. While not much is known about the new earbuds, Google inadvertently confirmed its existence earlier this month.
