“Being locked in the house for more than 15 weeks” – that is the basic format that Bigg Boss has been following for years. The game is about creating a new world outside of real connections. If you manage to entertain, they stay or the audience shows them the door. Last season, however, appears to have dropped the formula as most of the evicted candidates have re-entered the house after a brief hiatus.

It’s also amusing that the creators have planned an early final on Bigg Boss 14 and have announced that only four participants will take part in the final. However, some displaced contestants have made a comeback, and now the house has seven roommates from that season, plus four remaining challengers.

The first to return after a brief exit was Kavita Kaushik. The FIR actor had entered Bigg Boss 14 as a wild card and was touted as a strong candidate. However, given her ugly fights with Eijaz Khan and a few less gracious words shared between them, she was soon expelled after receiving the lowest number of votes. But the following weekend, Salman Khan Kavita had a panel made up of former candidates Kamya Punjabi, Vindu Dara Singh, Devoleena Bhattacharjee, and Naagin 5 actor Surbhi Chandna, and she had to convince them to give her a second chance. They questioned her actions but willingly agreed to her return and even advised her on how to better play the game. In her second stint, however, Kavita tried to make a name for herself but walked away after an argument with competitor Rubina Dilaik. While she was gone for good, many in the audience expected her to come back given the new trend this season.

Aly Goni made a pretty dramatic entry after his rumored girlfriend Jasmin Bhasin had a breakdown. A smart player with a more sociable personality, Aly turned out to be a much better candidate than this season. His trip was cut short after he and Jasmine lost the immunity duty and were asked to jointly decide who among them will leave the show. What followed were tears, drama, heartache as Aly sacrificed his place for Jasmine while she cried because she was alone in the house. Shortened to a few days, Aly was back in Jasmin’s arms and the audience is still finding out why he left in the first place!

The same goes for Nikki Tamboli, who was ousted during the mid-season finale. The actress was in tears as she got very excited about the show. In just a few days, it arrived in a gift box as a surprise for the roommates. If she actually received the fewest votes, we would like to ask the makers why someone will vote for her again.

Now come the strange comebacks – Rahul Vaidya and Vikas Gupta. For the first time, host Salman Khan offered a candidate to leave the show of his own volition. And Rahul shocked the audience when he actually decided to go out as he was homesick and lonely at Bigg Boss’s house. But in just a week, he was negotiating again with Salman and the roommates about his return, saying he deserved a spot on the show. What exactly happened in a week that led to his change in mood is still a mystery.

Vikas Gupta, however, was shown the door after violating one of the most important house rules – physical violence against a competitor. But in the Tuesday episode, he went much back to the disgust of enemy friend Arshi Khan whom he shoved into the pool. Manu Punjabi, who is currently unavailable for medical reasons, is expected to return soon.

The nice thing about Bigg Boss is that it keeps participants away from outside influences. Their opinions, relationships, and fixtures are all based on what’s going on in the house. When someone leaves this universe, they have time to grapple with their competitors’ strategies, create new fixtures, and even find out what viewers think of them and the show. All of this leads to manipulation and is therefore unfair not only to the other participants but also to the audience.
