Amazon has released a new trailer for the science fiction / thriller bliss. This is the latest from filmmaker Mike Cahill (Another earth) with Owen Wilson (Wedding crashers, The royal Tenenbaums) and Salma Hayek (From dusk to dawn, Like a boss) lead the cast. As we can see from the trailer, this seems like a mind-boggling love story that blurs the lines between simulation and reality.
The trailer wastes little time in casting doubt on what is real and what is not, as Owen Wilson’s tells Greg a memory that feels real to him, even though he’s not sure if it is. He then has a busy day at work before literally meeting the woman of his dreams in a bar. Things get weird in a rush when Wilson’s character realizes he’s living in a sophisticated simulation. The idea is that these tough simulations can reveal reality. As you can imagine, things are not going as planned. The whole thing looks trippy and unique. To top it off, Bill Nye appears.
Mike Cahill wrote and directed the film. Cahill previously headed 2011 Another earth and 2014 I origins. Both films received critical acclaim and were awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Cahill has directed television and directed episodes of for the past several years The magicians, Night flyer and The way. James D. Stern is producing, Lucas Smith and Marsha Swinton are executive producers. Nesta Cooper (The edge of seventeen, The wonder season) also stars.
bliss centers on Greg (Owen Wilson). He was recently divorced and fired from his job. Greg then meets the mysterious Isabel (Salma Hayek), a woman who lives on the street and believes that the polluted, broken world around her is just a computer simulation. Greg initially doubts her assessment, but eventually discovers that there may be some truth in this woman’s wild conspiracy.
Owen Wilson had some rest a few years after starring in the hit wonderas well as the comedy Father figuresWilson only appeared in a few episodes of the series Documentary now since then. The actor will get a lot more screen time in the coming year. Apart from this film, he can be seen in Wes Andersons The French shipping. He also has a leading role in Marvels Loki Series that debuts on Disney + in May.
Salma Hayek was pretty busy herself. Include some of their final credits The Kolibri Project, Drunk parents and Like a boss. Hayek will also join and star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year Eternal as ajak. The actress also appears in a sequel to The Hitman’s bodyguard, The bodyguard of the Hitman’s wifewhich is expected to arrive later this year. bliss arrives on February 5th.
