As those who have watched the entire first season of the hit Netflix series now know, Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan) had an alter ego to the secret identity of Lady Featherington who writes gossip.
What practically no one acknowledged, however, was that Coughlan gave tremendous insight into this personality in her very first scene!
Coughlan uncovered it on Twitter with a brassy request to support her fans on Saturday:

It was at this point that she found that in the main scene where we meet Penelope, she had chosen a prop to hold on to. Furthermore, you will never think about what – it was only Lady Whistledown’s pen that composed the pen.
How could I miss that ???? I thought I was a Bridgerton fanatic ??? Am I a wrong fan ???
Presumably we were all excitedly awaiting the Duke’s passage.
With some speculation about the correct answer, she confirmed at this point that she had in fact selected a particular prop to appear in the scene: “I have chosen a prop for the scene in which you see Penelope for the first time , This prop turned to be a monster feather that looked a lot like … a feather. “
In the scene where the Featherington relatives are being adjusted for dresses, Penelope is seen awkwardly looking at the fastening of her sister’s belt while holding a yellow feather.
Coughlan went on with additional effort, “In case you watch again, there are a lot of little clues, let me know if you see any more and I can check or refute it.” Sharpen your analyst skills to match Eloise Bridgerton’s!
