Clubhouse is no longer a pure invitation system for participation, as the audio discussion forum has opened its virtual rooms for the participants. In a blog post, the company announced that anyone can join the platform from Apple or Google supported Android smartphones. Previously, users could join Clubhouse via an invitation from an existing user.
“We look forward to sharing Clubhouse is now out of beta, open to everyone and ready to begin the next chapter, ”said app founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth in the blog post.

The live audio discussion forum grew significantly in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic. However, it is now facing strong competition from other social media platforms. Technology giants like Facebook have also ventured into the live audio business. In December 2020, Twitter Spaces launched while Facebook is hosting live audio rooms.
All of these social media platforms including Clubhouse, must also compete with discord, a VoIP instant messaging platform that has been offering live audio since 2015. The video game focused app has over 140 million users.
Speaking of the competition on the blog, Clubhouse said the previous invite-only option was aimed at “measured” growth and preventing things from “collapsing” while expanding its business base. The app was previously only available for iOS. It launched on Android in mid-May this year, after which the app added 10 million users to the community.
