Ebay is updating guidelines to allow NFTs to be sold
Ebay Inc. announced Tuesday that sellers can now sell non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on their platform, which currently has around 187 million buyers.
“Recently we have seen a massive surge of attention, media coverage, and online conversation about high-end collectibles – or what many call alternative assets. The interest and investment spanned everything from trading cards and comics to collectable sneakers and art, ”the company wrote, adding:
Today we’re updating Ebay’s guidelines to include the sale of NFTs. In the short term, NFT inventory is provided by trusted sellers who meet our high standards in categories such as trading cards, music, entertainment and the arts.
Ebay continued, “This is just the beginning. This first rollout will help us learn more about what’s important to our community. Expect programs, guidelines, and tools to make it easier and safer for our audiences to buy and sell NFTs in a wider range of categories. “
The company noted that “Ebay will add new features in the coming months that will bring blockchain-powered collectibles to our platform.”
Earlier this month, Ebay CEO Jamie Iannone announced that his company was considering accepting cryptocurrency as a means of payment. “We’re expanding the types of payments we accept. We are now taking Apple Pay and Google Pay. More choice for buyers … We’ll keep looking at other options like cryptocurrency, ”said the CEO.
