Veteran actress Emma Thompson has cited the double standard in Hollywood films of bringing young women together with older men without doing the opposite.
The 61-year-old actor believes the industry still opposes the idea that older women love younger men, and her upcoming comedy Good Luck To You, Leo Grande.
“For George Clooney, who is adorable, it is perfectly acceptable to have someone 40 years younger than him or 30 years younger than him. If someone is playing against me in a romantic way, they have to exhume someone because I’m 61 now. Do you understand what I mean? It’s completely unbalanced, ”she said on the CultureBlast podcast.
In the Sophie Hyde-directed film, Thompson will play a 55-year-old widow Nancy Stokes who hires a sex worker in her early twenties.
The actress said she was “very interesting” to play the character and looked forward to the audience’s reaction to the film.
“When Leo Grande, the movie we make, is talking to people and people are not averse to seeing someone who is largely nude with a much younger person, it becomes very interesting. We must continue to be brave, ”she added.
Good luck to you, Leo Grande is based on an original screenplay by British comedy winner Katy Brand.
The film, produced by Genesius Pictures, will go into production in London early next year.
