Tech giant Facebook has started working on its plan to integrate Facebook Messenger with Instagram DMs and WhatsApp. The company successfully integrated Facebook Messenger into Instagram’s DMs (Direct Messages) last year. Now the company has taken the first step towards integrating Whatsapp into the mix.
The Italian code digger Alessandro Paluzzi discovered a WhatsApp chat that is hidden in the Facebook Messenger code. While it is currently not possible to integrate WhatsApp with Facebook Messenger, Paluzzi has forced a thread to make it recognizable as WhatsApp chat to serve as a preview when the feature will be available after the integration is complete.
The report goes on to say that integration between Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp is optional when the feature is available. A similar implementation was observed on Instagram and Facebook, where users could choose whether to integrate chats between Facebook’s two own social media platforms.
According to a report by, several functions that have already been implemented in Facebook Messenger will find their way to WhatsApp WABetaInfo. The report goes on to say that the feature is still being tested for iOS. The company has not confirmed when the final integration of WhatsApp with Messenger will take place. The integration between Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMs, and WhatsApp is expected to be completed by the end of this year, although it will likely take a while to become available to all users worldwide.
Facebook integrated Messenger into Instagram DMs last August. The feature allows users to receive messages from Facebook Messenger on Instagram and gives users the freedom to reply from Instagram without switching apps and vice versa. Users also have the option to either receive messages and calls in their message requests or not at all.
