Franz Wagner from the University of Michigan in his sophomore year officially declared in favor of the NBA draft and wrote in a letter to fans that it was a “difficult decision”.
Of course, in the letter he also throws some shadow over his brother, the great Magic man Moe, and funny claims that if he can make the league, everyone can do it too.
I’ll be honest … I definitely feel a lot of emotion about it. I am hopeful more than anything – because playing in the NBA was a big dream of mine. I worked extremely hard for that. And after talking to my coaches and family, I know I’m ready for this. From a basketball perspective, this is the step I need to take now. (Also, I mean, if Moe can play in the league – obviously they take everyone.)
Moritz Wagner was designed by the LA Lakers in 2018 and has been a bit of a nomad since moving from DC to Boston and (most recently) Orlando and serving as a backup center. In 126 games he averaged 6.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1 assist per game.
Franz has grown to be a top 10 college candidate in the nation, averaging 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game at 47% shooting. His defense was also hailed as one of the best in class.
Needless to say, Franz is in stock and many fans are excited to see if a small, carefree sibling rivalry could be in the works.
We just have to wait and see.
