We have a brand new trailer for the upcoming horror / thriller Honeydew. This film on paper has several things to offer. For one, it was a lively title that came from the Nightstream Film Festival. Second, Sawyer Spielberg stars in his feature film debut. And yes, this is not a coincidence. Sawyer Spielberg is the son of legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg. While his father has made a name for himself behind the camera, the younger Spielberg tries to act. If so, he’ll have plenty of screen time to prove himself, as this appears to be a tense, minimalist thrill ride.
The trailer opens with what appears to be an attempted theft on a remote farm in the middle of nowhere. Needless to say, this doesn’t end well for the perpetrator. We then come across a couple driving down a country road before they run into an unsettling child. At night, while they are trying to camp, a farmer informs them that they are on his property. Of course, your car battery is dead, so you have only one option. Go to the old farmhouse and ask the seemingly nice old woman for help. From then on, things get stranger and more unsettling. Not that the two were full of options, but they really seemed to have ended up in the worst possible place.
The cast also includes Malin Barr (skyscraper) and Barbara Kingsley (Jessica Jones). It was directed and written by Devereux Milburn. It marks Milburn’s directorial debut. He previously had shorts like I was for and Wade. The film was originally scheduled to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival. But like many events in 2020, it has been canceled. But after making its debut on Nightstream, it still has a distribution deal and will arrive later this year for horror fans to see for themselves. Michael Repsch, President of Dark Star Pictures, had this to say about the film when the distribution deal was signed last October.
“Writer and director Devereux Milburn has skillfully created a macabre vision that oozes style and gets genre fans and cinephiles to immerse themselves in what he brings next.”
Honeydew revolves around a young couple (Sawyer Spielberg and Malin Barr). They are forced to take shelter in the home of an aging farmer (Barbara Kingsley) and her strange son. It doesn’t take long for the couple to suddenly develop strange cravings and hallucinations that lead them down a bizarre rabbit hole.
Lots and lots of films from 2020 were postponed until 2021 in the hopes that theaters would work as usual again. That didn’t happen. So some of the films that are released will get a hybrid release that combines theater and streaming. This situation won’t be any different. Honeydew hits theaters on March 12th before launching on April 13th on demand platforms. Be sure to check out the new trailer for yourself Dark Star Pictures YouTube Channel.
