The ‘Made in India’ app Digilocker has been recognized as a paperless alternative for citizens who wish to carry their Aadhaar card, driver’s license, PAN card and other documents with them. Last week, Union Minister V Muraleedharan announced that the app will save users the hassle of carrying the original documents when applying for a passport, as users will be able to share the digital copy of them. This was made possible through the integration between the Digilocker app and the ‘Passport Seva Program’.
First: Here you will see all the documents that can be shared with Passport Seva from your DigiLocker account.
Aadhaar Card, Driver’s License, Voter ID, PAN Verification Certificate, Gun License Issuance, Birth Certificate, Box Certificate, Grocery Card, Pension Certificate, Insurance Certificate – Life, Class X, XII Passport Certificate, Electricity Bill
and phone bill
Creating a DigiLocker account, uploading documents
If you’ve signed up for a DigiLocker account and are comfortable with uploading documents to the app, simply open Passport Seva to share your documents when prompted. If not, you can create a DigiLocker account here and upload your documents.
# Signing up is easy. You need to fill in your full name as per your Aadhaar card, your date of birth, gender, mobile phone number, email ID and Aadhaar number.
# You will receive a one-time password (OTP) for your registered mobile number. Enter it and you can log into your DigiLocker account.
# Now you get to the start screen of the app. From your driver’s license to your PAN card to your class XII trademark sheet, you have the option to upload anything. When you tap on a specific document, you’ll be prompted for information that will allow the app to pull it from the records. For example, to upload your driver’s license, you need to enter your DL number.
Uploading documents to Passport Seva
First of all, you need to make sure that all required documents are uploaded to your DigiLocker account. Now log into Passport Seva, fill in your details and you will be taken to the part where you need to upload documents.
# When you get to the self-declaration screen, a “Grant DigiLocker access” is displayed in front of the “birth certificate” that you have to present. After clicking on this option, you will need to log into your DigiLocker account with your mobile phone number, your username or your Aadhaar card.
# Enter the OTP and consent to Passport Seva to access your DigiLocker account.
# Now you just see the “Get from DigiLocker:” option instead of the “Grant DigiLocker Access” option. When you click the option, the following text is displayed: “The DigiLocker document was uploaded successfully.” If the document is not available in your DigiLocker account, it will indicate that the selected document does not exist in your DigiLocker account. Document could not be uploaded! “
# You can also upload supporting documents with DigiLocker. For some specific proof, you will be given the option of the document you can provide. If available in your account, you can click Get From DigiLocker to send.
