HP has turned the Specter Folio 2018 into a business-class device for consumers, the new Elite Folio, which has the same 2-in-1 design in leather but replaced the Intel Core chip with a Qualcomm Snapdragon – and that Stylus theme removed from Microsoft Surface Pro X
HP has made the transition from the 13.5-inch Elite Folio laptop from a benchmark PC to one designed for convenience. While the Snapdragon 8cx line has suffered a bit in terms of performance, there’s no doubt about it can offer tremendous battery life – and while HP didn’t specify the exact battery size, executives claimed it could deliver up to 24.5 hours of local video playback in a laptop that weighs only 2. 85 pounds.
HP Elite Folio can operate in traditional laptop mode.
The pen design marks the second major improvement. Tablet makers have struggled with stylus design for years, from the inclusion of a stylus loop – like the Specter Folio did – to the stylus cases that Samsung prefers. A third option was introduced with the Microsoft Surface Pro X (and the Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1): place a flat, rechargeable pen in a narrow compartment that could be hidden under the screen.
The Elite Folio adopts this design and allows an app (e.g. the Windows Whiteboard app) to be launched immediately when the pen is removed from the compartment. HP has not stated how long the Elite Folio’s AES pen will last, although it charges every time you put it back in its compartment. This length can be academic.

… Or put it into what HP calls “media mode,” which obscures everything but the touchscreen.
It’s a laptop! It’s a pill!
The Elite Folio is not a tablet, but it manages to switch from a conventional clamshell form factor and switch to what HP calls multimedia mode. The latter leaves the touchpad exposed so you can still interact with the touchpad or the 13.5-inch-10-inch touchscreen protected by Gorilla Glass 5. In our interaction with the previous one, you can see how it all works. Specter Folio below. (Our Specter Folio review adds more information.)
There are some other nice details in Elite Folio: The optional HP Privacy Screen, which uses reflective technology to significantly blacken the screen when viewed from an oblique angle and protects prying eyes from viewing. what you’re working on The Elite Folio’s keyboard is also splash-proof. The Elite Folio does not have two, but four speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen, which should promise a solid audio experience. and there’s 5G support too, compliments of the built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon x55 modem.
Otherwise the technical data is practical: HP only offers a basic resolution of 1080p, 16 GB LPDDR4X memory and up to 512 GB M.2. NVME SSD storage.

The SIM card tray slides into the end of the pen tray.
Oh, and does the Elite Folio still maintain that luxurious leather look? Well, something like that. Instead of leather, HP opted for “vegan leather”. This is the code for 100% polyvinyl.
Here’s what we know about the specifications of the HP Elite Folio. Note that it’s not just the processor that has changed the basic design of the Folio. The connectivity options have also been improved from 802.11ac to 802.11ax and from Bluetooth 4.2 to Bluetooth LE 5.0. The webcam is also Windows Hello certified and has a mechanical privacy screen.
