Instagram will soon make it easier for desktop users to view Instagram stories. A new cleaner design for stories is being tested by the platform exclusively for desktop users. The new layout offers a carousel-like setup instead of a single tile per story that takes up the entire screen.
Users can still navigate the stories using the same controls as they do on the Instagram phone app. You can jump to subsequent story tiles or return to previous ones. Alternatively, you can leave the Stories tiles to play automatically. However, the new layout makes it easier to keep track of previous and next stories so you know which stories you’ve just completed and which are upcoming.
According to a report by Engadgetan Instagram spokesperson confirmed the test and the new layout is currently available to a small group of Instagram users on the desktop. However, details of a more extensive rollout or whether this new layout should be retained are not yet known.
Instagram will likely begin collecting feedback from the small group of users who already have access to the new Stories layout. Once the feedback is satisfactory and all bugs are fixed, the new layout may result in more accounts.
We were able to see the new layout for Stories and confirm that the layout feels much cleaner than the previous implementation. While Instagram for desktops has improved over time, the story tiles felt pretty cluttered. The new layout is much better suited to larger screens and improves the experience for Instagram’s desktop users.
