The company has now introduced 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2. It seems to solve two of the main disadvantages of the first generation: its size and speed. According to Qualcomm, the new sensor is one 77% larger thanks to an area of 64 mm square in a square of 8 x 8 mm. The original generation consisted of a 36 mm square in a 4 x 9 mm rectangle. Without neglecting the size, they indicate that at just 0.2mm thick it is still extremely thin.
After all, the sensor has improved its speed over the first generation. It is now 50% faster than its predecessor when it comes to recognizing the fingerprint placed on the screen.
