After Jon Huber’s recent death, many of his colleagues and other wrestling stars are paying tribute to social media. Huber, who wrestled as Luke Harper in WWE and Brodie Lee in AEW, died Saturday of a lung problem at the age of 41. Along with wrestling fans around the world, the news came as a complete shock to everyone in the world. Business Huber knew. This includes Cody from AEW, who wrestled Huber in his last match and paid tribute to him with a post on Twitter.
“My heart is struck by the loss of Brodie Lee,” he says. “It was obvious that he was an extremely talented athlete and storyteller, and his gift beyond that was to challenge you, and he set the bar very high. Every first meeting with him … it was even more evident that he was was a family man and a first class person. I have to share his last number … I have to have his last match. This is an honor and a privilege and an experience that is so cruelly humiliating. Thank you, ‘Big Rig’. We will Honor you and your family. “
Bray Wyatt, who has worked with Huber for many years as part of the Wyatt Family stable, also posted a long tribute message on Instagram. Using a series of photos of the two together, Wyatt wrote about the man he once hosted the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship with.
In its entirety, Wyatt’s contribution reads:
“You were my best friend. My brother, my partner, my Terry Gordy. We changed the whole game because we refused to do it any other way OUR way. We were always at our best when we were a team which I believe we both knew. ” We fought like brothers because we were. I’m so damn mad It shouldn’t be like that, it should be the fat, bald, and useless Wyatt Family high school spots in our 70s. Where do we go now? What do I do when I know I’ll never hear your condescending sarcasm when I ride high. I miss you so much already. I’d do anything to survive our worst moments again I can’t believe you’re gone. “
“I’m so sorry, brother. I’m so sorry. You will always be a part of me whether I like it or not, everything is different without you and I hope Amanda really knows I’m here, not only to say it but because I love her too. I will make sure your son knows the incredible man you were. Not the legends that people will tell, but the real you that very few people have been able to see . I promise I’ll clean him up in dark matches when he’s old enough, just like I promised. It hurts so much. I wish I had the chance to say goodbye. But then again it’s Saturday and you know what that means … save me a place next to you wherever you are. I belong there when it’s my time. Goodbye forever, Brodie. I love you. “
Some of the biggest stars in the wrestling business also mourn Huber. This includes Hulk Hogan, who addressed the news on Sunday morning with the words: “Totally devastated to lose Jon ‘Luke / Brodie’, such a great talent and a great person! RIP my brother.”
Mick Foley also spoke of Huber, writing, “I just heard the news of Jon Huber’s death … a terrible day for wrestling fans. Two years ago, my son Hughie dressed up as Luke Harper for Halloween. He was a great worker and a doting father. A great loss to anyone who loves wrestling. “
AEW commentator and former WWE personality Jim Ross paid tribute to him with a simple post reading: “Heartbroken … Heaven has another good man today.”
Chris Jericho from AEW: All elite wrestling posted a picture of himself and Huber along with several other WWE stars from five years ago. In the photo, everyone is wearing bespoke Luke Harper t-shirts as WWE didn’t sell any official ones. In the caption, Jericho writes, “It’s Saturday. You know what that means … Backstage in Mexico in 2015. Brodie was upset that he didn’t have his own merch t-shirt, so one of the brothers had a bunch do in his honor. We all wore them as a tribute to the guy because everyone loved him. Just a wonderful man! “
Huber’s colleagues from his WWE days also pay tribute. Natalya Neidhart writes: “I find it unbearable to hear of the death of @ThisBrodieLee who was a dear friend to so many of us. He was an amazing husband and devoted father. His love for his family was immeasurable. I send prayers and love for Amanda, Brodie, Nolan and Jon Huber’s family. “
Mustafa Ali also says, “So much pain comes with losing someone like Jon. But everywhere I look I see an entire industry that pays him respect and shows him love. That alone shows what an incredible man he was. #RIPBrodieLee. “
And WWE legend Edge, who just returned to the company this year, posted a message of respect online too. He writes, “This is devastating. Jon was just … great. A great, fun, incredibly talented, warm, family-driven person. All of our love, thoughts, and warmth for his family.”
At just 41, Huber left us way too soon, but the reactions of everyone in the wrestling world show how much he was loved. The legacy he left in the pro wrestling business will ensure that he will be remembered forever. RIP Jon Huber.
