The Los Angeles Lakers are in serious trouble right now. They have evolved from being the best team in the Western Conference to a play-in tournament and their chances are not exactly good.
Without LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the team doesn’t seem to be finding an offensive rhythm and while the defense has been good, someone needs reinforcement.
This is Kendrick Perkins’ biggest concern about this team as he just doesn’t believe any other team can live up to the standards:
“For one, the importance of Anthony Davis and LeBron James. But second, the others aren’t that good, “Perkins said on The Jump.
Perkins went on to call out Andre Drummond for his erratic play since joining the Crimson and Gold, claiming that he has not yet lived up to expectations as a dominant rebounder and shot blocker:
“I know this team was built around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But Andre Drummond went on a worldwide tour when he was bought out. Went to visit and take calls and did all of that. And I expected more from him. I expect more from him and he doesn’t live up to it. I expect Andre Drummond to go out there and be that guy go out there and get you 15 and 15 a night along with 3 blocks and he doesn’t, “added the big man.
Unsafe from Perkins’ criticism, Kyle Kuzma stated that he couldn’t prove his worth after the two top guns were out and that the rest of the team also lacked a competitive mentality:
“I would expect this to be your opportunity for Kyle Kuzma to step up your game now and show the world that, ‘Hey, I’m a guy you could mention if you start mentioning these young guys in the league without LeBron James being there. When I look at the list of Lakers, I see Markieff Morris and Caldwell-Pope. And I look at these guys and I think I understand you don’t have top dogs, but you have to show some kind of fight at least. You have to at least show something that you belong to, “Perk concluded.
The Lakers have enough depth and talent to take a deep playoff boost and get back to the NBA Finals, but they need to turn things around now and, more importantly, get healthy.
