The actor took an extended hiatus from acting to focus on raising his children after his wife passed away, but has since come back.
In May 2020 Ghostbusters: Afterlife Director Jason Reitman stated that the production lacked the presence of Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis. Ramis unfortunately passed away in 2014, but his memory lives on in the upcoming sequel. As for Moranis, Reitman didn’t elaborate on it, but many had to believe that the actor refused to join the production. Now a new interview with Ernie Hudson could raise questions about a possible cameo. When asked about Moranis, Hudson said, “I think the studios probably want to hold this … I love Rick. But yeah, I’ll let them share that.”
Ernie Hudson has neither confirmed nor denied that Rick Moranis is there Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Could he have made a top secret cameo that Jason Reitman and the studio are keeping for a surprise? At the moment that’s unclear and it will be a while before we get a real answer as the long-awaited sequel has been pushed back more than once due to the ongoing public health crisis. Moranis will be returning, however Honey, I’ve shrunk the kids for a restart of Disney + after years of not participating in live action roles.
Rick Moranis was asked to participate in the 2016 all-female reboot of Ghostbusters but declined. At the time he said, “I wish you all the best. I hope it’s great. But it just doesn’t make sense to me. Why should I just spend a day shooting something I did 30 years ago?” The film was generally shot and bombed at the box office, so Moranis appears to have made a wise choice. Although Ernie Hudson enjoyed the movie, he believes it was a mistake to try to warm up what they did on the first episode.
Ryan Reynolds got Rick Moranis on a Mint Mobile commercial last year that shocked fans and immediately went viral. Shortly after the commercial made its debut, Moranis was attacked in New York City. It was apparently coincidental and the suspect has since been arrested. After learning that Moranis was fine after the incident, Reynolds said, “Should have known Rick will not be subject to 2020.
