One of the most unexpected offers from the MCU’s first list of shows on Disney + is a miniseries centered around Loki, the trickster god, played by Tom Hiddleston. Not only did the character act as the villain for much of the MCU’s run, but he also died in Thanos Avengers: Infinity War. Now Loki will have new problems in an unexpected environment. While talking about their shows on Disney +, MCU showrunner Kevin Feige hinted that the events of Loki will play as a “thriller”.
“”[WandaVision] is probably the most overt level – black and white, old-fashioned aspect ratio – but every show we work on is about creative swings for Marvel Studios, the MCU, and television in my opinion. I’m really excited about what we’ve already shown on Falcon and The Winter Solider – this is a very big epic action buddy series that we’re looking forward to. Loki, we didn’t say much about it, but it’s fascinatingly different and I think we called it a ‘crime thriller’ – which Loki wouldn’t necessarily think of. “
Previous Loki forays into the MCU have taken the form of a fantasy adventure. The guy is a literal god alien who possesses a myriad of powers that make him more powerful than most of the other characters in the MCU. Crime thrillers usually involve a protagonist dealing with a threat that is too much for them.
It’s hard to imagine what such a threat could be to Loki beyond Thanos and Thor. In an earlier interview, however, Tom Hiddleston had indicated that Loki would compete in the upcoming miniseries against an organization called TVA, which has powers far beyond the god of mischief.
“The trailer [for the series] shows a personal encounter with the time deviation authority. The TVA. An organization that regulates the order of time. Pretty big institution. Essential responsibility for ensuring that time unfolds according to predetermined rules. So you have an institution that represents order and a character that represents chaos. That’s where the drama begins. “
In Marvel Comics, the Time Variance Authority was founded in the distant future, which uses time travel technology to monitor the correct unfolding of various timelines across the multiverse. Apparently, her influence is so strong that even Loki is helpless before her will, as seen in the trailers of his show going on missions for the TVA that take him at different times.
The arrival of the TVA also prepares the entry of time master Kang the Conqueror, an immensely powerful villain who has long been rumored to be the MCU’s new “Thanos”. It wouldn’t be too hard to imagine Kang being featured in a brief cameo Lokibefore being used as the next Big Bad in the franchise.
Loki The stars are Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Sasha Lane, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. The series is out on Disney + on Friday June 11th. This message first appeared at IMDB.
