Naranipuzha Shanavas died in Kochi.
Malayalam director and screenwriter Naranipuzha Shanavas died in a private hospital in Kochi on Wednesday. Actor-producer Vijay Babu went on Facebook to share the news of Shanavas’ death.
(You went and left a lifetime of memories and many stories that you told me. Our Sufi) We did our best for you Shaanu … love you very much. “
Naranipuzha Shanavas, who was treated in the intensive care unit at KG Hospital in Coimbatore after suffering cardiogenic shock on the set of his upcoming film Gandhirajan last week, was transferred to Aster Medicity in Kochi earlier that day in a ventilator-assisted ambulance. On Wednesday evening he took his last breath in Kochi.
Naranipuzha Shanavas showed a preference for socially relevant films. His films usually dealt with the religious, social, and cultural divide in the country.
His latest film, Sufiyum Sujathayum, released on Amazon Prime Video this July, explored society’s ingrained bigotry when it comes to allowing interfaith marriages. His first film, Karie, illuminates the hypocrisy and absurdity of casteist society.
