Microsoft announced the addition of new and improved language features Microsoft Outlookso users can search, email, and schedule meetings with their voice. For now, the new function will be available in Outlook for iOS. While Android users may have to wait a while as the tech giant is still working on Android support for the new update.
The new Cortana-based voice assistance helps users navigate the outlook Application on mobile platforms. the Dictation skills which have been an integral part of the web version of Word and Outlook for many years are now ready to debut in the mobile version. On iOS, users can use their voice to reply to messages or use text-to-speech to compose new emails. Cortana will use artificial intelligence (AI) to allow users to multitask without giving text commands.
The voice mode can be activated by tapping the new plus symbol in outlook mobile application that will be released shortly. According to a blog post, users can ask questions like “When is my next team meeting?” Or look for employee files and calendar entries. You can even use voice to quickly attach files as Outlook uses Microsoft Graph to display relevant documents.
In addition to language support, Microsoft has also launched another service called Microsoft 365 Planner. It is designed to help Microsoft 365 administrators schedule meetings. After signing in to Cortana, users can schedule meetings with email replies, or simply write, “Cortana, find an appointment for a meeting next week.”
The Planner plays an important role for Microsoft in repositioning Cortana as a productivity assistant. Cortana was first launched in December 2015 and discontinued by the California tech giant earlier this year. In 2019, CEO Satya Nadella announced that Microsoft no longer viewed Cortana as a competitor to Alexa and Google Assistant.
