Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, gave a glimpse of what audiences can expect from the upcoming Disney + series. Moon knight. One of Marvel’s lesser-known Guardians, former Marine Marc Spector, AKA Moon Knight, is battling dissociative identity disorder, and Feige assures fans that this mental health exploration will play a huge role in Disney + customization.
“It’s been a while since we had an action hero jumping out of buildings and getting into fights. The insanity is a unique aspect of the program.”
Of course, the mental health aspect will be a part of the series, with Feige just as excited to draw on the other, better-known superhero tropes Moon knight Jump from tall buildings in the name of justice and get into countless fistfights.
Moon knight The backstory is rich, intricate, and tells an origin ripe for serial adaptation. Before becoming a superhero, Marc Spector grew up rabbi in Chicago and eventually became a heavyweight boxer before enlisting as a U.S. Marine. After his military career, Spector becomes a mercenary, which leads to his taking on a contract for an archaeological dig in Egypt where a statue of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu was discovered.
As is so often the case with this kind of escapade, the situation goes wrong and Spector has to die at the excavation site in the freezing temperatures of the night. Before Khonshu succumbs to the sweet deliverance of death, he comes to him in a vision and tells him that when he becomes his embodiment on earth, he will let him live. And so Spector wakes up and becomes a moon knight.
Upon returning from Egypt with the powers of Moon Knight, Spector decides to become a crime fighter because who wouldn’t. Spector is putting his mercenary days behind him by wisely investing the blood money he’s earned. He uses his wealth to better fight crime. Spector’s dissociative identity disorder manifests itself in the form of three different personalities, each with different traits and identities. Rich entrepreneur Steven Grant, a taxi driver Jake Lockley who keeps in touch with the street-level criminal underworlds, and of course Moon Knight, his silver-clad crime-fighting character. Think of it as more intense Batman.
While no casting has been announced yet, rumors continue to circulate claiming it Rise of Skywalker Star Oscar Isaac will play the title role. Other fans now believe that Moon knight is the perfect opportunity for John Wick Star Keanu Reeves joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Feige himself previously declaring his desire to include Reeves on the MCU list. “We speak to him for almost every film we make,” Feige confirmed recently. “I don’t know when, if or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we’re dying to find out how to do it right.”
Moon knight has no release date yet, although filming is expected to begin in 2021. The series is just one of many original content set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to debut on Disney +, including WandaVision, The falcon and the winter soldier, Loki, Hawk Eye, Mrs. Marvel, She-hulk, What happened if…?, heart of steel, Secret invasion, and Arms wars.
