The appearance of Mr. Wilford (played through Sean Bean) turned the Snowpiercer universe upside down. Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) had only just gained control of the train after the resistance and is currently having to demonstrate this as the train’s unique creator claims he is too. The fans are wondering who will be at the top towards the end of the season. Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) is also on the sidelines. However, a sign may have just revealed Wilford’s inevitable ruin.
The most exciting scene of the second season
His fatal mistake could have been murdering his boss of hospitality, Kevin (Tim Lipinski). Kevin was familiar with the TNT and Netflix show by the beginning of season two and only lasted a few episodes before he was executed. In the past, he was appointed as an assistant in the hospitality office to head Big Alice’s hospitality when the rest of the group abandoned him and retired to the Snowpiercer that Melanie Wilford had stolen. Kevin owed his life to Wilford and Wilford might owe his ruin to Kevin’s death.
When Big Alice boarded Snowpiercer, Kevin was captured as a prisoner of war and interviewed by Layton and Roche (Mike O’Malley). Despite the fact that he did not reveal any vital information about Big Alice or Wilford’s plans, he was lured by a plate of bison wings and discovered how he and the rest of the team were starving for fresh food. When he returned to Wilford after trading with Melanie, Kevin was greeted in Wilford’s chambers and offered a shower. For a long time, Wilford’s intentions failed to compensate his staff for its reliability, and he ordered Kevin to cut his wrists and butcher him to create a razor. However, its absence has not gone unnoticed.
What will ruth do?
Across the border, Ruth (Alison Wright), the director of hospitality at Snowpiercer, saw immediately that her partner wasn’t bothering about his duties. Wilford dismisses her concerns that Kevin got sick from his experience with Snowpiercer, but Ruth certainly smarter than being bulldozed. Could the inevitable exposure of Kevin’s fate change Ruth’s psyche about Wilford? Ruth was arguably the most energetic passenger when Wilford’s train showed up somewhere out there in the season one finale. She was loyal to Wilford from the start, and since his return she has been the spokesperson for all Wilford loyalists still on the train.
While her job so far this season has been to take control of Layton’s idealistic plans for the train and keep him informed of the needs of the higher classes, she could take on a bigger stake as the series progresses. Ruth is very aware of the power her job gives: she knows everything about everyone on the train, just like Kevin. She quickly reminded Layton that Kevin was “a bigger chip” than he understood, and with a much bigger move to watch, Ruth is a much bigger chip herself. While on the surface she only seems to be in love with Wilford, she was very aware of her loyalty to the train, not the man behind it.
If somehow she managed to get answers about Wilford killing Kevin, it could lead her to switch sides and support Layton and influence the rest of the platoon in support of himself. Kevin’s death will ideally not have been without end.
