To say that Netflix’s 2021 movie release schedule is stacked could be the understatement of the year. The streaming service has long been the king of the hill, with nearly 200 million subscribers worldwide. And they don’t mess around when it comes to giving these subscribers what they want. Premium content. In this case, the company has released its entire plan for the year, including at least a new film every week.
Netflix recently released a trailer previewing its 2021 movies that features a dizzying amount of footage, stars and filmmakers. The company also elaborated on it in a press release, listing all 70 original films that will be in the pipeline before the end of the year. This includes, but is not remotely limited to, Adam McKays Don’t look up with Leonardo DiCaprio (and a huge ensemble), Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, the third entries in The kiss stand and To all the boys Trilogies, RL Stines Fear Street Trilogy long delayed The woman in the window with Amy Adams and much more.
The numerous stars bringing their work to Netflix this year include Sandra Bullock, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Meryl Streep, Zendaya, Jennifer Lawrence, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, Gal Gadot, Dave Bautista and Naomi Watts, Jake Gyllenhaal, John David Washington and Octavia Spencer. Johnson, Reynolds and Gadot will star Red note, an original thriller originally set up for theatrical release at Universal. Netflix stepped in and instead set up the huge budget to win the trio of big stars.
This gives Netflix a tremendous advantage year round. No other studio or streaming service on the market can match this type of output. WarnerMedia is making a number of big debuts on HBO Max as the studio’s entire 2021 plan will be on-duty and in theaters simultaneously. Even so, it won’t be anywhere near what Netflix does in terms of volume.
It shows how deep Netflix’s pockets have become. Paying for 70 films of any size is a staggering amount of money. Then it’s a really big undertaking to compensate for all that talent, produce massive blockbusters and not get any money back at the box office. Anyway, that’s what they do and how they manage to stay one step ahead of the competition. You can check out the full list of 2021 movies, all of which are arriving over the internet Netflix streaming service.
