OVR.ai announces a live and ongoing integration with. at Chain link, the marketing leading decentralized Oracle network that provides smart contracts with secure and reliable off-chain data and calculations. The current integration involves the use of Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) fair and transparent selection of a special fund winner from the list of participants in the upcoming OVRLand treasure hunt. Additionally, the OVR team plans to leverage Chainlink oracles across the platform to connect the physical world to OVRLand’s digital metaverse and enable a virtual experience influenced by the real world.
OVR is a decentralized platform for geolocalized Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) experiences with the vision of merging the physical and virtual world through AR. OVR enables users to create, host, and visualize AR / VR experiences customized for specific geographic locations.
This is achieved by OVR dividing the digital world into 300 m² hexagons, so-called OVRLands, each of which represents actual physical geographic locations. Each OVRLand is tokenized with the ERC-721 NFT standard on the Ethereum blockchain. The owner of each OVRLand NFT can assign the AR viewing experience for the specific geographic location their NFT represents.
But what if you could embed decentralized logic in OVRLand NFTs? What if you could take off-chain / geographic data and use it on the blockchain to speed up interactions within the decentralized OVR metaverse?
This is where Chainlink comes into play, which enables OVR to connect real events securely and reliably with blockchains in order to trigger intelligent contract executions. Data such as randomness, geolocation, weather and more can all be retrieved from off-chain sources and provided on-chain via Chainlink-operated decentralized Oracle networks.
The most immediate use case for OVR is to use randomness to determine metaverse events. However, the source of randomness must contain high levels of certainty that it cannot be manipulated or predicted in order to gain unfair advantage, especially when randomness is responsible for the movement of real economic value. This is why the OVR team selected Chainlink VRF to determine the winner of our final extraction award for 15,000 OVR tokens, which will serve as a community reward for treasure hunters and partake in our wider 50k grant for OVRL and buyers. The extraction process is performed by a public and deterministic algorithm that iterates through the ordered list of OVRLand IDs, using Chainlink VRF to generate and provide the random number that is used to fairly and transparently select a winner from the list.
Chainlink VRF combines block data, which is still unknown at the time of the request, with the pre-determined private key of the Oracle node to generate both a random number and cryptographic evidence. The OVR Smart Contract only accepts random number input if it has valid cryptographic evidence, and cryptographic evidence can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides users with automated and publicly verifiable assurances right in the chain that the selection made with Chainlink VRF is demonstrably fair and cannot be manipulated or predicted by the oracle, external entities or the OVR.ai team.
In the future, the OVR team also expects the use of a large number of Chainlink data feeds beyond VRF. Let’s break down some specific examples of how Chainlink data feeds can boost blockchain metaverse and OVR.
Imagine having AR / VR experiences that are not only geolocated but also aware of real world conditions:
- AR game logic modified by the outcome of a soccer game or election
- AR location information changed due to weather conditions
- In-game AR tokens are unlocked when a certain number of people are in a location
- AR / VR experiences are unlocked when an artist wins a Grammy Award
However, these are just a few examples – any real data source that can be streamed with an API can be reliably provided on-chain by Chainlink oracles. The data can be integrated into smart contracts to create infinite types of interaction logic within the OVR metaverse – there are no limits to the imagination!
