Superstar Salman Khan turned a year older on Sunday, but the actor decided to hold back on his 55th birthday as the “terrible year” of 2020 was due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Khan, who spends his birthday with his family and close friends at his Panvel farmhouse, interacted with select media and cut a cake in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“There are no celebrations this year, just me and my family here and no one else. I wasn’t in the mood to celebrate my birthday as it was a terrible year for everyone and a lot of people in the industry have passed away. So there is no reason to celebrate, ”Khan told reporters.
The Bollywood star urged fans to follow COVID-19 protocols to stay safe during the pandemic.
“I just hope everyone is happy, healthy, safe and wearing masks. Wash your hands and keep social distance so everyone stays safe, ”he said.
The Bharat star said he wished 2021 would be a great year for everyone.
Hindi film personalities including Khan’s father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, sister Alvira Agnihotri, actors Sunil Grover, Sooraj Pancholi, Zaheer Iqbal, Nikitin Dheer, Kratika Sengar and casting director Mukesh Chhabra attended the intimate birthday gathering.
On Saturday, Khan appealed to his fans not to crowd in front of his house in a suburb of Bandra on the occasion of his birthday because of the pandemic, and also announced that he was not home.
“The love and affection from my fans over the years has been overwhelming on my birthdays, but this year it is my humble request not to rush in front of my house while respecting COVID pandemic and social distancing norms,” Khan said in the notice displayed outside his building.
On the labor front, the actor has started shooting his upcoming film, Antim-The Final Truth, in which he allegedly plays a Sikh police officer.
The film, with his brother-in-law, actor Aayush Sharma, is reportedly a remake of the 2018 Marathi crime thriller Mulshi Pattern.
While the original was directed by Marathi actor and filmmaker Pravin Tarde, the remake is directed by actor and filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar.
Khan also hosts the latest season of the reality show Bigg Boss.
He will next appear on the big screen in Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai, directed by Prabhudheva. Filming for the film was completed in October.
Radhe with Disha Patani and Randeep Hooda was due to hit theaters earlier on May 22nd but has been delayed due to the pandemic.
