Dustin Diamond from Saved by the bell Glory has been hospitalized, and TMZ reports the actor is likely battling cancer. Diamond was admitted to the Los Angeles hospital over the weekend after “experiencing pain all over his body and a general feeling of discomfort”. Doctors are reportedly running tests on Diamond to see what exactly is wrong with him, but the cancer is the presumed prognosis. There is a cancer story in Diamond’s family that includes his mother dying of breast cancer, but it is still unclear what type of cancer doctors suspect Dustin Diamond might have.
Diamond is perhaps best known for his role as Samuel Powers, aka Screech, on the hit ’90s sitcom Saved by the bell. After Diamond appeared on every season of the original show, he repeated the role on every episode of the spinoff shows The new class and The college years. He has made many film and television appearances elsewhere in the past few years, often than himself and sometimes on reality competition shows like Celebrity Big Brother and Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling.
The Saved by the bell A restart on Peacock brought back almost all of the main characters from the original series, but it didn’t include Screech. His omission was not very surprising since Diamond has not appeared at any of the cast meetings in years. His character’s absence from the Reboot series was fixed when Slater (Mario Lopez) told Jessie (Elizabeth Berkley) that Screech is now literally in space. “Screech is so lucky that he and [his robot] Kevin is allowed to live on the International Space Station so he doesn’t have to worry about all of that, “said Slater.
Along with Lopez and Berkley, the restart also brought back Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Zack Morris, Tiffany Thiessen as Kelly Morris, Lark Voorhies as Lisa Turtle and even Ed Alonzo as Max. For his part, Diamond previously told TMZ he didn’t know why he wasn’t invited to join the reboot, although he still hoped NBC would call him to get Screech back on the new one Saved by the bell.
“How did you Saved by the bell without screeching? It seems like there was a missed opportunity there, “said Diamond.
Although Diamond didn’t appear in the first season of the reboot, his chances of appearing in a second season seemed much better. In November, Berkley responded to the possibility when asked about the possibility of bringing Diamond back at some point in the future. Although she didn’t stay in touch with Diamond and couldn’t say for sure, Berkley teased that Screech might very well show up down the line.
“I don’t know if he’ll show up,” Berkley continued See what happens live to Andy Cohen. “We’ll see if there’s another season. Maybe there is something to discover and I haven’t spoken to him in a long time.” Whatever Dustin is doing in the hospital, we wish him all the best in his recovery.
