West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that superstar Shah Rukh Khan will celebrate the virtual inauguration of the 26th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) on January 8th.
The seven-day festival begins with an homage to two greats – the author Satyajit Ray on the occasion of his 100th birthday and the legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who died last November of complications after COVID.
Together we will overcome this pandemic. But the show has to go on. We continue #KIFF 2021 virtually on a smaller scale. Nice to have my brother @iamsrk will accompany us virtually at the opening event on January 8th at 4 p.m. See the Kolkata International Film Festival live

“Together we will overcome this pandemic. But the show has to go on. We are running #KIFF 2021 virtually on a smaller scale. I am glad that my brother Shah Rukh Khan will be there virtually at the opening event on January 8th at 4pm, ”said Mamta Banerjee on Twitter.
Satyajit Ray’s classic Apur Sansar, which was Soumitra Chatterjee’s debut film, will be shown at the inauguration.
A total of 131 films – in feature film, short and documentary formats – are shown in selected state theaters in the city, including Nandan and Rabindra Sadan.
Superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan as well as other big names from Bollywood have been guests at the opening ceremony in recent years.
