In 2020, Sony has largely focused on releasing the PlayStation 5. However, the company has not lost sight of its goals and has continued to work on side projects while ensuring the commercialization of its game console. The company sells headphones, game consoles, televisions, cameras, smartphones and more on all fronts.
Recently, Sony bought Crunchyroll, a VOD platform specializing in anime. The Japanese company now has a comfortable place in the streaming space. But that’s not all. A few months ago, the brand launched a brand new project called Airpeak. During this presentation it was complicated to really define this project. Sony hadn’t made it clear whether it would be a drone or a drone development platform.
Sony presents Airpeak.
This time we have the heart of it, it’s a drone indeed. Sony used CES 2021 to launch this brand new product. During a virtual conference, Sony presented this drone, which can carry an Alpha range camera, and was endowed with AI to provide a stabilized image while in flight.
Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony, wanted to personally present this innovation. He describes this drone as intended for adventurers and especially for image professionals. Sony would therefore intend to enter this market through the doorstep, which is largely dominated by its neighbor DJI or the French parrot. On the video we can see that the Airpeak has some kind of landing gear that can be folded up in flight. The company has announced that its Airpeak drone will hit the market as early as next spring, but didn’t want to say more about the price. Given the object and the video rendering, a very high price is certainly to be expected. I’ll let you admire a selection of images captured by Sony’s Airpeak drone.
