Sony is bringing a unique feature to its newly launched premium 4K and 8K televisions “Bravia XR”. The new televisions can stream and watch high quality movies comparable to 4K Blu-ray discs. This will be done through content streamed on Sony’s new streaming platform ‘Bravia Core’, which, as the name suggests, will be available exclusively to Sony TV users. It will come pre-installed with the new line of premium televisions.
The “Pure Stream” technology enables video streaming at up to 80 Mbit / s. It has its own disadvantage and uses more than three times more data compared to Netflix. The most popular streaming platform transmits 4K content at up to 25 Mbit / s.
According to the company, Sony Bravia XR users will be able to stream a range of Sony Pictures titles as often as they like (for a limited time) at the highest quality (depending on internet connection). The availability of the films also depends on the TV model purchased.
The list of TVs that come pre-installed with Bravia Core includes:
BRAVIA XR MASTER series Z9J
BRAVIA XR MASTER series A90J
BRAVIA XR A80J
BRAVIA XR X95J
BRAVIA XR X90J
When purchasing Bravia XR TVs, buyers also receive coupons that can be used to stream various tiles. It has yet to be confirmed that the duration of the titles will be available. The Japanese tech giant has also promised that Bravia XR televisions will have “the largest IMAX enhanced movie collection” and behind-the-scenes footage of movies Bad boys for life.
The move could help Sony make the Bravia XR televisions more attractive as people started watching movies at home. TV sales also rose after the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to the Bravia Core, these TVs can also deliver 4K at 120 fps, which will attract gamers who buy the new Play Station 5.
