3 crypto indices launched by S&P Global
S&P Global, the parent company of S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC, brought to life “The S&P Digital Market Indices” on Monday.
The index series include the S & P Bitcoin Index, the S & P Ethereum Index and the S & P Crypto Mega Cap Index. The ticker symbols for the three are SPBTC, SPETH and SPCMC, respectively. The latter “measures the performance of Bitcoin and Ethereum,” the company said.
The company stated, “The indices aim to create transparency for the emerging cryptocurrency market.
These indices are used to measure the performance of a selection of digital assets (crypto assets) that are listed on recognized, open exchanges and that meet minimum liquidity and market capitalization criteria.
The indices use Lukka Inc., a crypto data provider, as a data source for price and reference data for digital assets via the reference data products Lukka Prime and Lukka.
According to S&P Global, cryptocurrencies have gone mainstream and appear to be staying here as more companies offer crypto services and adoption increases worldwide. Meanwhile, an S&P analyst believes Bitcoin’s surge is reminiscent of the US gold rush.
