Spotify, the audio streaming giant, has one goal in mind: to become the ultimate benchmark for podcasts. To this end, Spotify’s strategy is quite simple. The platform is constantly looking for exclusive content. Yesterday morning the Stockholm-based company announced that it had signed an exclusive contract with Archewell Audio, a brand new production company specializing in the podcast format. So far, it comes as no surprise that Spotify is in the habit of signing such contracts or buying companies in order to achieve its ultimate destination.
Who is behind Archewell Audio?
It is important to know what is behind this name: Archewell Audio. We’re not going to let the tension last any longer, it’s simply the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the person of Harry and Meghan Markel who started this young company. However, for the moment when it was impossible to know the financial details of this exclusive deal, knowing the profile of these two celebrities, Spotify had to invest a huge sum of money to get the rights to the content produced by Archewell Audio.
Spotify and Archewell Audio have announced that the first podcast series will be released in 2021 without an exact date. However, Archewell Audio, in partnership with Gimlet (another Spotify trait), will be hosting a special episode for the Christmas holidays, hosted by Harry and Meghan Markel. This famous episode should therefore not be delayed any longer, we are only 8 days before Christmas and the holidays will start in a few days, some will see a few hours.
Over the past two years, Spotify has spent hundreds of millions of dollars creating one of the most comprehensive podcast catalogs on the internet. In the last month alone, Spotify formalized the purchase of megaphones for $ 235 million.
