Up to Avengers: Endgamethere is seldom a major Marvel project that Not with a cameo by Stan Lee. in the Ant man He was a bartender, a FedX postman in Captain America: Civil War, the driver of Peter Parker’s bus in Avengers: Infinity War, and so on. His random cameos took off with his special appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this linked its various screen roles in each MCU project. But James Gunn recently confessed that this brilliant idea was not originally his creation.
For those who don’t remember Stan Lee appeared twice in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It first appeared shortly after Rocket, Groot, Yondu and Kraglin had erratically jumped through space to reach Ego’s planet and save Quill. After the group disappears out of sight again, we see a disgruntled Stan Lee in a spacesuit talking to a group of observers on a distant planet and telling them about “those times” when he was a Federal Express man . He talks about his cameo Civil war Towards the end he was seen delivering a package from Steve Rogers to Tony Stanks.
He appeared for the second time in the final Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 post-credits scene and was seen calling the Guardians as they start to leave, annoyed by the ongoing series of stories of his multiple appearances. The Guardians who debuted in Fantastic Four # 13 in 1963 are a race of ancient beings who watch over the various universes while adhering to a strict policy of non-interference.
During the press conference for the film in 2017, Kevin Feige told how the scene serves to prove that “Stan Lee clearly exists above and outside the reality of all films.”
“James (Gunn) had this idea and we shot this cameo and loved it so much, you know, you see it a couple of times in the movie,” he added. “We thought it would be fun to put that in and leave it there because that really says, ‘Wait a minute, he’s the same character who appeared in all of these films, the same person.'”
But long before that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Marvel fans had even tried to find a logical reason for Lee’s recurring presence in every movie. They had already established that while he appears as different characters in the films, he is the same person as an observer who knowingly appears at crucial events to monitor how things play out.
As with the MCU, fan theories and wild speculation never get old, no matter how many years have passed since a particular movie was released. Recently, in the second Guardians film, a Twitter user re-emphasized the epic meaning behind the short scene.
“Daily reminder that Stan Lee was canonically a watcher informant, playing the same character in every MCU movie, keeping an eye on the heroes and their adventures. Thanks @JamesGunn!
But the best was James Gunn Immediately retweet the post and confess how it got onto the scene in the first place.
“I stole the idea from fan theories on Twitter that I thought was weird.”
This isn’t the first time Gunn has admitted how he came up with the cool logic behind Lee’s multiple appearances on the MCU, as he talked at length about the cameo during a Facebook Live session in 2017.
“I actually read the Marvel fan pages and the Marvel forums … One thing that I found very funny and interesting is the fact that socialmediagossips thought Stan Lee was an observer … and that all of these cameos, who he makes are part of it. He was a Watcher. So I thought this was one of the biggest things fans could come up with. Stan Lee, as a guy who is either an Observer or probably works for the Observer, was something the MCU for which I had fun. “
In case you were one of those avid Marvel fans who also theorized Lee was an observer or their informant at the MCU, you can give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back – as far as you know, it was your speculation that led to Gunns great inspiration!
