Henson’s son Marcell was just 9 years old when his father was stabbed
Hollywood star Taraji P. Henson recently spoke about the difficulty of telling her son that his father had been murdered.
In the preview of the Wednesday episode from Facebook Watch’s Peace of mind with TarajiWe see the actor remember telling their son Marcell Johnson that his father, William LaMarr “Mark” Johnson, was killed.
Marcell, who is now 26, was only 9 at the time and Henson said she couldn’t tell him he was murdered at the time. She said he died in an accident. Henson spoke about this with her co-host, Tracie Jade Jenkins, and her guest, psychiatric counselor Sierra Hillsman.

Marcell only learned the truth about his father’s death at a later date. Henson said that he came back to her one day and asked why his father was murdered, and later they had to undergo therapy. Henson spoke through tears about seeing her ex’s murder reported in a newspaper. When she saw him being stabbed, she felt like she couldn’t tell a 9 year old.
Henson is a longtime mental health advocate, and last month she told Willie Geist last Sunday that the reason she started her Facebook show was to spread mental health awareness among the black community. She said the Black Community’s mental health crisis felt they needed some urgency and this was what she decided to reach out to more socialmediagossips.
She also shared about her own battle with depression in 2020, which got so bad that she just wanted to “end it all”.
