Text predictions are a feature that seems trivial and obvious to us today. Thanks to their integration with operating system keyboards, they have been involved with smartphones for over a decade. Now the world’s most popular text editor, Microsoft Word had no text prediction yet.

This is how text predictions work in Word
Last September, Microsoft announced that Word and Outlook might include text predictions. This feature would show the end of the words we write in gray or the following words, depending on what the app predicts. This is a similar option to, for example, Google Docs or Gmail.
Once the predictions are grayed out, the user can Press the TAB key to place the cursor at the end of the prediction and accept or the Esc key to reject the forecast and make it disappear. The user has no control over how and how often the forecasts are displayed. According to Microsoft, a machine learning algorithm is used to determine the predictions made by Word.
Text predictions aren’t always for everyone and can be boring for some users. It is because Microsoft allows them to be disabled so that they no longer appear. All you have to do is go to the status bar and deactivate the option “Text predictions: Yes”.
Microsoft has tested this new option with a percentage of Windows public beta users. They will now incorporate functionality for all users into the next Microsoft 365 update as shown in the Microsoft 365 suite roadmap. It will reach all users in March Microsoft 365 in Word.
