At the end of last year, the mobile network “new generation5G has been introduced in a few large cities in France. However, there is no network in the capital, but this should change very soon, according to the city of Paris. In fact, a new Paris Mobile Phone Charter will be presented to the Paris Council in March that could quickly lead to the deployment of 5G.

According to the city of Paris: “The signing of this charter by the city of Paris and the mobile operators – Bouygues Telecom, Free Mobile, Orange and SFR – will enable the commercial launch of 5G in the capital in the coming weeks.“The Parisians can therefore assume that they will have unloaded the little“ 5G ”logo in the upper right corner of their smartphone screen … provided, of course, they have a compatible smartphone.
The developed charter contains a total of 21 recommendations and aims to better inform citizens about the effects of 5G. It also describes the various uses of digital technology, methods of recovering and recycling terminals, managing personal data, and more.
In addition, the city of Paris reiterates its rejection of facial recognition experiments in public spaces.
The City of Paris also states that a Parisian Mobile Telephony Observatory, a monitoring point, has been set up. This is made up of elected representatives from the political groups of the Paris Council, operators, consumer and tenant associations, environmental protection associations, 2 participants from the citizens’ conference and national agencies as well as regional and scientific experts.
In particular, one of the objectives will be to share the level of knowledge about mobile telephony and the challenges associated with future technological developments.
