Welcome to Wrexham follows the Wrexham Red Dragons, a team that plays in the National League, the 5th division of the English Football League. Despite being the oldest professional soccer club in the world, the team has struggled. It was purchased by McElhenney and Reynolds under their joint venture, RR McReynolds Company LLC, in November 2020. In February 2021 they became owners.
Of course, the two actors have no experience as coaches, let alone managers of a professional football team. They have also never worked together before. But both Ryan and Rob believed they could secure victory for the Welsh underdogs. Welcome to Wrexham will follow the two actors as they try to bring the team back to its former glory and make sure the rest of the world sees them.
Did they flip the team?
But two actors with no football experience who bought an entire club came up with their questions. It’s even been made into a joke in Apple series Teddy Lasso. But the actors repeatedly assured everyone that they will turn the team around, and they did. In the 2019/2020 season, the team finished 20th. But it showed a huge improvement after finishing 8th in the 2020-2021 season. And now the team is ranked #2 in the National League.
Reynolds and McElhenney will also be producers on the series. Welcome to Wrexham starts with the first two episodes on August 24th on FX. It will be available on Hi on 08/25
