When iOS 14.5 becomes available to all users soon, iPhone 11 (Pro) and iPhone 11 Pro Max owners may be thinking about it. Because the update can seemingly magically rejuvenate your battery.
With the introduction of the sixth beta of iOS 14.5, Apple introduced battery recalibration for iPhone 11 (Pro) and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Since the procedure can take several weeks, the first results are only now displayed:
My phone completed the battery calibration (part of iOS 14.5 for 11 series phones).

As Benjamin Mayo of 9to5Mac writes in his tweet, the battery capacity of his iPhone 11 Pro has increased. You could also say: the battery has recovered. Because before the update, it was 86% of its original capacity. In the meantime this figure has risen to 90%. It can be checked on any iPhone under “Settings |” Battery | Battery status “.
Many are satisfied with “more battery”
Many other beta users of iOS 14.5 have had a similar experience, according to 8-bit reports. We can see an increase in battery capacity on Twitter and in Reddit posts. For an iPhone 11 user, however, that number also decreased by one percentage point. It is quite normal for a battery pack to drop below 100% of its original level over time. iOS estimates how much of the original endurance is still available.

Why only for the iPhone 11 series?
For the iPhone 11 (Pro) and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, this estimate is not yet completely correct – and iOS 14.5 solves this problem: According to an Apple support document, a recalibration on these devices corrects the incorrect battery level of the display.
Symptoms of the failure also included a [hoher] Reduced power consumption and in some cases maximum performance. For the latter, your iPhone 11 may show a changed value after updating to iOS 14.5. In most cases, however, no noticeable increase in performance is to be expected.
The situation is likely to be similar with the updated battery capacity. This is unlikely to be noticeable in practice. Because as Apple writes, the previously imprecise display is in no way associated with a real battery problem. This means: after updating to iOS 14.5, your iPhone 11 will most likely show you a higher maximum capacity. But that hasn’t really changed.
