Ahead of the 72nd Republic Day celebrations amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Twitter India has announced the launch of a special emoji in honor of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Bitmoji shows three jets moving in formation, leaving a tri-color trail similar to the ones we’ve seen in Republic Day parades over the years.
Twitter said the Indian Air Force will also tweet the recently launched emoji with the hashtag #TouchTheSkies, urging citizens of the country to show their respect to the men and women in blue.
“Emojis have become a popular form of expression and a light-hearted way of having conversations with one another. This is the day we live every year to bring Indians from all over the world together on Twitter. With the COVID-19 restrictions in place, we had to find a way to get the parade into the virtual public square. This year’s emoji is not just a special tribute to the past fly – the show stopper of the parade every year – it is a way to bring people together in a spirit of celebration, ”Payal Kamat, public policy at Twitter India, said in a press statement.
For the sixth year in a row, Twitter has launched a special emoji to celebrate Republic Day. There have been several emojis in recent years including the map of India, the Indian tricolor, the India Gate, the Ashoka Chakra, and a tricolor symbol of the India Gate. Previously, Twitter also released special emojis for Diwali Festival, Independence Day and other important dates like Ambedkar Jayanti and Gandhi Jayanti.
