Disney’s ambitious plan to expand the MCU into a production format will begin with its release soon WandaVision. The trailers and teasers for the show were weird to say the least, featuring Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff leading the life of a sitcom housewife with her Android friend Vision, complete with quirky neighbors, shiny settings, and a studio laugh track . But it’s not all what it seems when Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, told Jimmy Kimmel that the series will switch to full MCU action mode at some point.
“We’ve raced through the decades and hit different genres of sitcoms and then Vision starts to think that this is getting a little weird and in the end you end up in [a] full of MCU action movie. “
The plot for WandaVision seems to be very similar to the comic series “House of M”, in which Wanda uses her reality-distorting powers to create a new world according to her wishes. At the end of Avengers: EndgameWanda was still swaying from Thanos’s loss of sight.
That seems to have prompted Wanda to construct an artificial reality in which Vision still lives and the two lead an idyllic life in the suburbs that is modeled on classic sitcoms in which nothing really bad never happens.
As the trailers show, Wanda’s perfect illusion doesn’t last too long as more and more real-world characters emerge who threaten to expose Wanda’s new life to the hollow shell that it is. From what Bettany said, it appears that Vision also recognizes that not everything is as it should be, and he helps Wanda accept that they lived a lie that must end.
While WandaVision is set up as a comedy, it is likely to have a serious impact on the entire MCU. It has been confirmed that the events of the show will directly result in Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness, in which Scarlet Witch must help the Sorcerer Supreme mend a broken reality by traveling to other areas of the multiverse.
We can expect a little taste of this kind of realistic action WandaVision, along with an intimate story about dealing with loss through Wanda’s relationship with Vision. MCU showrunner Kevin Feige had previously admitted that he was having a hard time thinking about where to take the franchise until the idea for the show came up.
“My team and I asked ourselves internally where we should go [after Avengers: Endgame, and what would be the next step that was equally challenging and unexpected. [The notion of extending the brand to television] was an adrenaline rush. Elizabeth and Paul were these amazing actors – who had done amazing things in four films – but never got a chance to dominate the narrative because so much else was going on. It was fun finally giving them a platform to show off their amazing talent. “
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision The stars are Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes.
