WhatsApp may soon add an option to make it easier to find stickers and show the user suggestions based on what is typed in the chat box. The feature is reportedly still under development, according to WABetaInfo, and may soon be available in a future update for Android and iOS. WABetaInfo is known for revealing upcoming features over WhatsApp.
According to the report, the upcoming WhatsApp sticker suggestion feature will analyze the first word entered on the chat bar. If this matches a sticker stored in the user library, the app will display a suggestion. For example, if you type in “love” or “sad”, the app will display a relevant sticker based on the packages.
The sticker icon will look different if there is a suggestion. The user needs to tap the sticker icon in the chat box after typing a word for the suggestion to appear. For example, after typing the word “Happy” you need to tap the sticker icon and then the suggestions will appear.
According to the report, the feature works fine for official WhatsApp sticker apps, but it doesn’t appear to be compatible with third-party sticker apps like Sticker Maker. However, the report adds that the developer is working on an update for the app to support this feature.
It would make more sense for the feature to work with third-party stickers as WhatsApp’s native sticker library is rather limited for both Android and iOS. Third-party stickers are popular because they offer a lot more options and variety while the native stickers are limited.
In other upcoming features, WhatsApp will likely add support so that users can migrate their chat history from Android to iOS and vice versa. This is a long awaited feature. If you are an Android user and have decided to switch to iOS or vice versa, there is currently no way to check your chat history. This is because the chat is backed up to Google Drive on Android while it is on iCloud on iOS. Hopefully the feature will be available soon.
