RIO DE JANEIRO: A giant model of a vagina on the hillside in northeastern Brazil has fueled an ongoing social struggle between radicals and conservationists – including close partners of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro.
The clear 33-meter cement and tar design, referred to as “Diva” by craftsman Juliana Notari, is located on the site of a former sugar factory that has been converted into an outdoor exhibition hall in the state of Pernambuco.
Notari announced the establishment a week ago, saying it had portrayed both a vagina and an injury that examined the connection between nature and culture in a “phallocentric and people-centered culture.”
“These issues have become more and more urgent today,” she composed on her Facebook page, along with a series of photos of the huge, magnificent red figure, which a group of 20 craftsmen needed 11 months to create.
The craftsmanship sparked a heated discussion about online media. Over 25,000 people commented on Notaris Facebook post – the two allies and experts at the work.
“With all due respect, I wasn’t interested. Imagine I’m walking in this park with my little girls and they are asking … Dad what is it? What will i answer? “an analyst composed.
Accordingly, a female banner expressed: “With all due respect, you can show your little girls that they are not ashamed of their own privacy.”
Bolsonaro’s political master, Olavo de Carvalho, took to Twitter to lambast Notari’s work – and apparently proposed a monster penis design to challenge it.
His remarks moved nearly 700 retweets, many of which were burdened with blunt analysis against liberals.
Bolsonaro has censored what he believes is left-wing work for some time, and in 2019 he ineffectively tried to freeze funding for LGBT +-themed films.
Months later, his secretary life came to an end after a video was published in which he appeared to be copying a discourse made by the National Socialist Annunciation chief Joseph Goebbels.
