It turns out Zack Snyder’s Justice League is not spread over several weeks in installments. The director has confirmed that his new take on the superhero team, commonly known as the Snyder Cut, will be released as a film all at once. That means fans can expect a nearly four-hour version of the superhero film, which easily makes it one of the longest ever made. Plan your pee breaks accordingly and have the pause button ready.
The Snyder Cut will debut on HBO Max later this year. Although an exact date has not been announced, it is expected to arrive in March. When the project got together behind the scenes last year, it was initially reported that Zack Snyder’s Justice League would arrive as a four-part miniseries. Given its length and the fact that HBO Max would get more juice if spread out over a few weeks, this seems to make sense. But Snyder has now stated that it will not.
As is so often the case, the filmmaker visited the Vero social networking site to update on the film’s progress. Snyder revealed a behind-the-scenes picture that said, “Cup of Tea at Co3 at Work on ZSJL”. In the comments section, someone asked if it would be released as a four-part series, as previously stated, or as a one-shot film. Snyder simply replied with “One shot.” So there we are. Regardless of what HBO Max wants to do with it afterwards, the film will at least initially be released all at once.
The original, theatrical cut of Justice League, published in 2017, was around two hours. That means that Zack Snyder’s version will be significantly longer. Even so, it was always planned as a film, so it makes sense for the filmmaker to stick with it. WarnerMedia ultimately spent an additional $ 70 million or more on him to finish his vision, including some new additions. One could argue that releasing it as a series would not fit his vision. Snyder has also stated that the hope is to give this new version a theatrical release that is likely to receive an R rating.
Snyder left the original production after a family tragedy. Joss Whedon was then hired to oversee rewritings and re-recordings, which changed the film significantly. The result was an enormously expensive blockbuster that met with a lukewarm response. As a result, fans began to campaign for the studio #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. After years of tireless work, it has paid off.
This four hour cut contains only about 25 percent of the footage we’ve seen before. The rest will be new. This will include major changes like the inclusion of the villain Darkseid, more of Ray Fischer’s Cyborg, and even Jared Leto’s Joker. We’ll also see Martian Manhunter as portrayed by Harry Lenix and more of Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke. We will keep you updated as more details become available.
